Most of you know I drive a school bus; I try to work as many hours as they will allow me to, because I have a child in Marching Band, and ...well need I say more? I have not had a lot of time off this summer; But the current summer route I am driving has s little something different I would like to share with you. You see I have a tendency to really fall in love with the children on my routes. They become my own little family of sorts. Yeah I know some of you may find that a little strange, but I am one of the people they classify as "eccentric" so as not to hurt my feelings when they classify me as strange...lol. Anyway, todays story is about Someone Very Small Who Walks Very Tall.
There are only 8 children on this particular route. Each of them as unique as the next but all alike in ways as well. One child in particular will not sit down, one of my pet peeves on the bus is that you sit and remain seated at all times. I can say sit down 100 times and if I look up one second after saying it , yup you guessed it, he is standing again.
This causes a dilema for me, oh I know that you are probably thinking, Driver distractions, or perhaps I should not worry so much about this habit for this short summertime route. However, my dilema is more personal that that. You see this child has always ridden the Special needs bus. I have volunteered in the school and watched this child from a distance as he has grown and blossomed from one with a walker and leg braces, to just the braces, to walking on his own, reguardless of how wobbly, to his first time as a rider on a "Big bus".
So you see telling someone who has never been able to stand on their own accord, to sit down, well it makes me cringe every time I say it. It is my duty as a School bus driver to keep him safe, and to make him sit, and that is exactly what I do, however, telling him to sit down tears a little at my heart.
May God Richly Bless You,
And may your days be filled
With the love and laughter of
People you care about.
May you remember to Pray,
Not just for your own needs,
But for the needs of others as well.
And Remember that the best way to
Defeat the Devil is to "Love One Another"
In God We Trust
